WESLEY GONZALEZ CHANGE

We've been following the career of London-based songwriter and ex Let's Wrestle frontman Wesley Gozalez for a while now. Making a fairly significant departure from the fairground-inspired synth-rock of Wesley's comically-titled 2017 album Excellent Musician, new single 'Change' arrives alongside news of its follow up Appalling Human. Taking influence from Ghanaian house music, 'Change' pulses with a bleating bass current that's both relentless and upbeat. Doused in trancy synthesizers, danceable beats drive the track forward with a hopeful energy as Gonzalez' candid lyrics sprawl out over the soundscape. Giving some context Gonzalez explains: "At the time I wrote it I found myself at pivotal moment of change and saw that in others around me, one of my best friends had gone through an intervention and it had made me question aspects of my life. I thought about how scared I would be if I gave all my crutches up. I wanted to be reassuring to someone when I also felt in need of reassurance, so this was my song for him." Appalling Human will arrive on the 12th of June via Moshi Moshi Records. -Holly Mullineaux
